1. Afro-Asiatic: Approximately 200 languages covering nearly all of Northern Africa, including the horn of Africa, Central Sahara and the top Nile.
2. Nilo-Saharian: Gathering approximately 140 languages with some eleven millions speakers scattered in Central and Eastern Africa.
3. Niger-Saharian (Niger-Congo): Covering two thirds of Africa. A principal branch of the Niger-Congo, which gathers more than 1000 languages with some 200 millions speakers. The Bantu languages of Central, Southern, and Eastern Africa form a sub-group of the Niger-Congo branch.
4. Khoisan: Gathering about thirty languages in the Western part of Southern Africa.

Botswana and South Africa are the two largest exporting countries in Africa. South Africa is the world's largest producer of gold and diamonds. The advanced infrastructure and skilled labor in South Africa make it well developed and functional. Other countries are lacking these aspects and are not as developed or successful.
The main exported commodities are palm oil, gold and diamonds, oil, cocoa, timber, precious metals, and coffee.
Imports
The main imported commodities are machinery and equipment, chemicals, petroleum products, scientific instruments, and food. Machinery and equipments imports have become a regular as the region is trying to uplift its productivity and make use of the vast resources.
Trade Partners
The United States and the European Union are major trade partners. Africa also does minor trade within their boarders between all 57 countries.
